Scooter Carrier for Rear of Motorhome With Rear-Mounted Spare Tire

Question:

What carrier will fit

The extended overhang at the rear of a motorhome means that any hitch mounted accessory installed in the hitch will be subjected to more jarring and bouncing than it would if it were instealled in a hitch on a standard car, truck or SUV. This is why most of the motorcycle carriers we offer aren't for use on a motorhome.

The Ultra-Fab # UF48-979033 is the only carrier rated for use on a motorhome. According to my research, the weight of the Honda Jazz scooter comes in well below the 500 lbs of the scooter, but you'll want to ensure that the hitch on the motorhome has sufficient capacity for the weight of the scooter plus the 45 lb weight of the carrier. The carrier will accommodate tire widths up to 5 inches.

You'll also want to check to see if the spare tire on the motorhome will interfere. Measure from the hitch pin hole in the receiver rearward until you clear the spare tire. If this distance is less than 16 inches, the carrier will fit, but you'll want to determine if the motor cover at the rear of the scooter will interfere. To do that, you'll need to do some calculating. Measure the total width of the engine cover. Deduct half the 5 inch track width from half the width of the motor cover. The result should equal how much of the motor cover overhangs the track on the carrier. Deduct that result from the 16 inch clearance mentioned above. Say your result is 14 inches. In order for the scooter on the carrier to clear the spare tire, your measurement from the hitch pin hole to the rear of the spare tire would need to be less than 14 inches.

I doubt this or any of our scooter/motorcycle carriers will allow for enough clearance for a spare tire mounted to the rear of your Fleetwood Storm. Is there any way to relocate the spare tire to the inside of the trailer?
