Parts Needed to Install Brake Controller on 1996 Chevy K 1500 Pickup
Question:
Hi! I recently purchased a 1996 Chevrolet K1500. I have a single axle 15 foot Travel Trailer. I dont have an electric brake controller on the vehicle. Additionally, I dont have a trailer light kit installed. What products do I need for the vehicle to accomplish the installation of an electric brake controller and trailer lights that hook up to my 7-way connector on the camper? Thanks so much for your help!

We can get you exactly what you need so you'll have your travel trailer out on the road in no time at all. You'll need the following:
Brake Controller
Trailer Wiring Harness
Brake Controller Install Kit
For the brake controller, I'd recommend going with a proportional controller like the Tekonsha Primus, part # TK90160. The Hayes Energize brake controller you mentioned is a quality unit, but the operation and display isn't very user-friendly. The Primus has a LED digital display that can tell you at a glance what's going on with your trailer braking system. The controller is also self-leveling.
You'll also need a functional 4-pole trailer wiring harness, part # 118315 and the Brake Controller Install Kit, part # ETBC7,.The install kit includes everything necessary to install the controller, including an adapter to convert the 4-pole to a 7-way, hardware, wire and even zip ties for a clean-looking install.
I've linked you to an install video, as well as the instructions for the ETBC7 kit.
