Troubleshooting P2 90885 Brake Controller with LED Readout When Trailer Not Connected & Ignition Off
Question:
I have the prodigy 2 #90885. I checked my braking power and reset it to 6.0 since I got a bit heaver trailer than what I had when the unit was newly installed about two years ago. It was set at 3.0 with the prior trailer. I left the boost setting at 6.1, I did not change that. I notice that the 6.0 setting has two decimals in the LED readout: 6.0. is this normal? The instruction diagram only shows 6.0 Without the ignition and the manual activation lever not activated, the LED constantly reads 1.5 now with the new 6.0 setting. Is this normal? Again, the trailer is not connected and the ignition is off. I dont recall seeing this readout before, but the power setting was only on 3.0 instead of 6.0. I am not sure if the LED readout goes off after awhile. I just checked and the LED readout is still illuminated after about 5 minutes. Maybe it never went off before, I dont recall. Is this normal? Does this mean it is miss wired? I had it professionally installed in Seattle. Thanks for your response

Don't worry, I can help you troubleshoot what's going on with your Tekonsha P2 brake controller # 90885.
The P2 # 90885 should go into a sleep mode after 15 minutes time and the display should be blank. Also the extra dot on the end of your display 6.0. signifies that the boost feature is on, which you might not have needed with your previous lighter trailer. I have attached a snip from the directions that explains this boost feature for your convenience.
I spoke to my contact at the manufacture and he said that the constant 1.5 would indicate that there may be a problem in the wiring. This can also happen if the car goes through a car wash, heavy rain storm, or puddle. This would indicate you have a voltage reading on the red wire which you should not have unless your foot is on the pedal and sitting still.
I have linked the entire set of instructions to this page for you to check out.
