How to Select Replacement Hubs for Utility Trailer

Question:

I am looking to replace the hubs / bearings on my utility trailer, however, I do not know the weight capacity of the Axle. Is there a way to determine this? Thank you.

Axle capacity is usually noted on a sticker or plate on the axle itself. The linked article includes a table with typical axle capacities based on their diameter; this information appears in the first column.

Selecting new hubs requires you to match up some keys features. You need to match the axle capacity, wheel bolt pattern and the bearing set used inside the hubs. This matching of bearings is critical to ensure the new hub will fit on your spindles.

I have linked our main page for trailer hubs, both idler hubs for trailers without brakes and hub/drums for trailers with brakes. Select the type you need and then your wheel bolt pattern and axle rating.

Then simply click on the inner and outer bearing part numbers from your current hubs to see hubs that will fit on your spindles. For example, for a 5-on-4-1/2 idler hub that uses inner and outer bearing L44643 (or bearing L44649) you can use part # 8-259-50.
