Brake Controller and Wiring Recommendation for a 1997 GMC 2500 Towing Dump Trailer
Question:
Hello I have a 97 GMC 2500. Im purchasing a single axle dump trailer with Nev-R-Adjust brakes. I currently have a flat four connector at the hitch. Since I dont need to adjust the brakes, I dont need a controller that has that feature. So which controller is needed and what other wiring do I need? Id like to charge the dump trailer battery while the truck is running. The trailer has a payload max of 3600lbs and a gvwr of 5200lbs. Thanks for your help

Nev-R-Adjust brakes are designed to always have the proper adjustment in terms of brake pad clearance to hub drum surface. Manual adjust brakes require you to periodically tighten them up so that they will engage properly when applied properly. Either setup requires a brake controller that can properly apply braking power to the trailer's brakes. The controller has to be adjustable so that you can tailor the proper amount of braking power for your trailer.
To convert your 4-way to a 7-way and install a brake controller will require the # ETBC7. This comes with everything needed. I attached an install video that shows this being installed in a similar truck as yours.
For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes.
