Recommended Weight Distribution System For Travel Trailer With Maximum Trailer Weight Of 6,700 Lbs
Question:
I have a travel trailer with a maximum weight of 6700 lbs. and have a 750# Eaz lift hitch now. Is this the best weight rating hitch to use for this trailer? If not what weight rating hitch should I use? Thanks,

The best way to determine the correct weight distribution hitch for you is to know the tongue weight. The tongue weight is the tongue weight of your trailer when it is fully loaded and ready to tow added to the weight of any cargo loaded behind the rear axle of the towing vehicle.
Since tongue weight is typically 10 to 15 percent of the gross towing weight of the trailer you should be somewhere between 650 lbs and 1005 lbs. You said your system is designed for 750 lbs. It may actually not be rated high enough. A system that is rated lower than the actual tongue weigh will be useless. Too heavy of a system can make the ride stiffer which is not good either. I have attached a link to a helpful article that explains how to determine tongue weight.
You want your tongue weight to be close to the middle of the range of the weight distribution system. I would think your tongue weight will be close to 900 lbs. For a system that would work great with that figure I recommend the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w Sway Control, part # RP66084. This system features a trunnion bar system and is designed for tongue weight between 600 and 1,200 lbs.
The hitch ball is sold separately and requires a hitch ball with a 1-1/4 inch diameter shank. For a 2 inch hitch ball I recommend part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch diameter ball I recommend part # 19286.
I have also attached a link to a helpful article about weight distribution and sway control you may want to take a look at.
