Adapter for 6-Way Round Vehicle Connector to 7-Way Blade Style Horse Trailer Connector

Question:

I had brakes installed on my truck for my horse trailer, but the guy told me there was no way to keep my truck a 4 flat and changed it to a 6 round. My horse trailer is a 7 blade though and now I have to pay for more labor and him to change stuff again and I want to make sure its done right, or that theres not a cheap adapter I could buy myself and put on easily.

There is an adapter you can use to go from the 6-Way round on your truck to the 7-Way blade on the trailer. It is adapter # 47435. On this adapter the center pin for the 6-Way side is wired as the 12 volt circuit. If the 6-Way is the same on your truck then you do not have to do anything. If the center pin on your truck is for output to the trailer brakes then you would need to swap the 12 volt and brake wires on the adapter.

Honestly, it would be better to just replace the 6-Way on the truck side with a 7-Way such as # PK12-707E since the 6-Way round connector is not all that common anymore. You would just need to open up the back of the 6-Way to see where each of the wires is going (the terminals are labeled) and then attach them to the back of the new 7-Way (which also has the terminals labeled).

I have included a couple of pictures showing the configurations of 6- and 7-Way connectors for you. Ignore the colors and just focus on the functions of the terminals and their positions.
