Selecting Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution/Sway Prevention System for Travel Trailer
Question:
TT: 2007 TrailCruiser TC21RBH Length: 21foot / dry weight: 3345lbs / TW: 389lbs / GVWR: 6271. Tow Vehicle: 2004 GMC Yukon XL 4wd/AWD 5.3 w/3.73 GVWR 7200LBS. I was thinking to purchase the following Reese Strait-line hitch: RP66083. Is this a good ion for the above Yukon-TT combination?

The Reese Strait-Line weight distribution/sway control systems such as the # RP66083 actually prevent trailer sway from starting in the first place, rather than try to correct it once the problem has started. We consider them to be the superior choice in WD systems.
The key to matching a Strait-Line to your set-up is knowing your trailer's fully-loaded TW just as it will be when you head out on the road: you need to measure the TW when the trailer is fully loaded with water, propane, food, supplies, equipment, etc. We offer a simple scale for this, # e99044, but other methods are outlined in the linked article.
Since your dry hitch weight is 389-lbs, the loaded TW figure could well end up around 600 to 650-lbs. In this case the Reese # RP66083 would be a perfect choice since it operate with a TW range of 400- to 800-lbs. Ideally your actual loaded TW will fall right near the middle of the system's operating range. If your TW is 800 to 900-lbs then the higher-rated system # RP66084 is a better choice.
Either way all you need to add is a hitch ball. For a 2-inch ball use part # A-90 or for a 2-5/16-inch ball use part # 19286.
