To flat tow your 2007 Jeep Wrangler X manual behind a motor home you will need base plates, a tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking.

For base plates there are several options depending on how your Jeep is equipped. If it has a factory front bumper and no winch, skid plate, or brush guard you can use Roadmaster base plates # 1429-1.

If the Jeep has a Warn or Mopar bumper that is any of the following parts you can use # 1430-1 or # 1430-3: 82211715, 82211715AB or 82209740AD & skid plate part numbers 82210401 or 82210401AB.

If you have a Rugged Ridge bumper, 11540-10 or 11540-11 you can use # 1437-3.

For a compatible tow bar that works with any of the above base plates you can use the Falcon 2, # RM-520, and for safety cables you can use # RM-643.

For lighting our installers prefer the bulb and socket kit # RM-155 because it is one of the easier installations and it bypasses the vehicle wiring. It does look like the battery has to be disconnected to flat tow the Jeep. Consult the owner's manual to confirm.

To keep a charge going to the vehicle battery you can use coiled umbilical kit # HM47054. One end plugs into a 7-Way on the RV and the other end plugs into the 6-Way included with the kit. Just wire up the wires from the bulb and socket kit to the 6-Way. You could then use some additional wire, # 12-1-1, sold by the foot, to run from the 12 volt circuit on the 6-Way mounted at the front of the vehicle to the positive battery terminal.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the preferred systems for our installers is the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO proportional system, # SM99251. It will apply the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

Be sure to consult your vehicle owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.
