Trailer Side Wire Functions for 6- and 7-Way Connectors for a Dump Trailer
Question:
I have the small round connecter with 6 or 7 places for wires, I can wire all lights. Needing to know how to wire 12 volt batteries used to dump trailer. Where they will be charging while plugged in or truck is running. Two batteries putting out 12 vols to hyd pump motor. Thanks for your help.

It sounds like you have either a 6-Way or 7-Way connector. I have included a couple of pictures that show the functions of 6- and 7-Way connectors for you.
Basically, the 12 volt circuit from the vehicle connector will pass through to the trailer side connector and you can attach the wire associated with that circuit directly to the positive terminal of the first battery. Keep in mind that when 2 batteries are hooked together like you have it takes longer for the second battery to get a charge.
Also, most vehicle alternators and wiring to the trailer connectors are too small to push back/handle the amperage needed to charge up a battery. At best it will prevent the battery from draining anymore. Ideally you would charge the batteries when you have access to AC power with a charger such as # CTEK56353.
And another option is to install a solar panel, such as # TLA7713, and Redarc charger # 331-BCDC1250D to provide a charge to the batteries when you do not have access to AC power.
