Curt TruTrack, Blue Ox Sway Pro or Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems for 27 Foot Airstream TT
Question:
I will be towing a 27ft Airstream with my GMC 2500hd diesel. I have been looking at 3 of your wd products: Curt TruTrack Equal-i-zer wds w/4-point sway control. Blue Ox Sway Pro All 3 appear to be able to do the job. TruTrack is the most economical. Are there benefits going with either of the 2 more expensive products?

The Curt TruTrack # C17500 would work best on trailers with tongue weights between 700-1000 lbs, while Equal-i-zer and the Blue Ox SwayPro offer different systems for different trailer tongue weights.
From a warranty standpoint, the Equal-i-zer and the SwayPro offer a limited lifetime warranty versus a 10 year limited warranty for the Curt. Equal-I-zer has focused primarily on weight distribution for a long time and they are an industry leader when it comes to weight distribution and sway control. Their pedigree and reputation in the towing community always make them an easy choice.
In terms of weight distribution performance, all three systems are pretty much equal, but when it comes to sway control function, I'd give the Equal-i-zer system the nod. For trailers 25 feet long or longer, the sway control function is very important. Longer travel trailers are very susceptible to crosswinds and turbulence caused by passing traffic.
To choose the properly rated weight distribution system, you'll need to first determine the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer. To that figure, add the weight of any gear stowed in the cargo area of the SUV or truck bed behind the rear axle. I've linked to an FAQ article that explains how to do this. These combined figures comprise the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your set-up. The TTW of your trailer should fall as close as possible to the middle of the effective range of the weight distribution system you choose.
As a rough guesstimate, I'd put your tongue weight right around 800 lbs. If that proves to be the case, I'd recommend the Equal-i-zer # EQ37100ET, which includes the weight distributing shank and trailer ball.
