Availability of Drop Shank for Use with Weight Distribution to Allow Trailer to Tow Level

Question:

I have a Ram 3500 tow vehicle. I plan to pull a two horse bumper pull trailer. We have a weight dist. hitch already . It attaches with a 2inch bar into the hitch on the truck. But the truck is like 6inch higher from the ground than our old Ford. I understand I need a class lV rating on the hitch assembly. Can I get just a down receiver and use my old weight dist. gear or do I have to start over ?

Most likely you can just get a new weight distribution shank that has more drop so that your trailer can be towed level.

If the current shank you have has 3/4 inch diameter holes that are 1-1/4 inches apart measured on center (this is a very common size, almost all systems have these dimensions), then a shank like the part # C17123 would be a great option.

From the top of the shank down to the very bottom measures 13-1/4 inches.
