Because the 2008 Ford F150 with the factory wiring harness and factory 4 pole trailer connector is not wired for a 7-Way trailer connector you will need to use the Hopkins Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole and 4 Pole, # 37185.

It retains the 4 way in the event that you would need it in the future, and it also includes the mounting bracket. The 4 pole on the adapter would plug into your existing 4 way and there are four extra wires to be wired.

The extra wires are:
Black: 12 volt hot lead
White: Ground
Blue: Electric Brake Wire
Purple: Auxiliary or Reverse Lights

The black wire would need to be wired directly to the positive post with a 40 amp inline circuit breaker, # PK54540, to give you 12 volt power back to the adapter. You would need 12 volt power to the trailer if you are wanting to run any 12 volt accessories or if you have an auxiliary battery that needs charging.

The white wire is to be grounded to clean bare metal on the frame or chassis.

The blue wire is for electric brakes. If you do not have electric brakes then this wire would not be used. If you have electric brakes this would be wired to the blue wire on the brake controller.

The purple wire would be used if you have reverse lights on your camper. That wire would have to be connected to the reverse light circuit of the tow vehicle.

If you do not need the blue or purple wire then they can be taped up and out of the way.

I am sending a video link that will show the Hopkins adapter being installed on a 2006 Chevy.
