Proportional Trailer Brake Controller Installation in 2001 Ford F-250 Super Duty
Question:
Bought a / 1st travel trailer. Looks like a proportional brake controller is my goal. Do not understand the difference between automatic vs manual leveling - - - what leveling ? Also noticed wiring harnesses custom to my 2001 Ford F250 Super Duty. Does that mean I have a factory supplied receptacle to plug into ?

Proportional type trailer brake controllers deliver braking that is more consistent with the slowing of the tow vehicle, which is generally preferred to the "one-size-fits-all" action of a time-delay type unit that applies the brakes with the same intensity no matter how quickly you're stopping. But since they rely on an accelerometer to sense the tow vehicle's deceleration, proportional controllers need to be set up within each one's operating angle range. A top-flight controller like the Prodigy P3 # 90195 includes automatic leveling in the entire 360-degree vertical plane while others like the Primus IQ # TK90160 will work from a level position up to a 70-degree vertical angle. Since the P3 also includes great features like continuous diagnostics and a customizable LCD display, it is an easy recommendation and is highly rated by our customers.
If your 2001 Ford F-250 Super Duty has a factory 7-way at the rear bumper then you can use quick-connect harness # 3035-P to connect the P3 to the under-dash port. The linked video will illustrate the installation in a 2001 F-350.
