Could Fifth Wheel Rails Fit Around a Gooseneck Hitch that is Only 12 inches Wide

Question:

I have a 2003 F-250 V10. It has a goose neck hitch in the bed. Actually, it is a receiver for a ball and two 1/2inch or so inverted U bolts for safety chains, I presume. The hitch is bolted to the frame. It is about 12inch or so front to back. Can I install a fifth wheel hitch without removing the goose neck and leaving a 4inch hole in my bed?

A universal fifth wheel hitch rail kit MIGHT be able to fit around your gooseneck hitch if it truly is only 12 inches wide. Universal rails will sit 22 inches apart on center and use L-brackets that could potentially fit around the gooseneck hitch. But that will depend on where the gooseneck hitch sits with it's 12 inch width in relation to the axle center. If it is perfectly centered above the axle and it's mounting hardware does not extend forward or backwards on the frame rails then the rails should fit around them no problem.

For a universal rail kit you would want the part # RP30035.

Otherwise the gooseneck hitch will need to come out. Which if you have to install the rails you may as well try to get them in there with the gooseneck hitch first.
