Parts Needed To Install a Brake Controller and 6-Pole Connector on 2015 Ford Fusion

Question:

I have a 2015 ford Tytanium hybrid Fusion, that will pull a mico camper. The camper has a 6 wire plug. I see I can use 118574 kit with 4 to 6 pole adapter # 30637. Is this correct? will this work with the tytanium hybrid?

Before deciding to tow your camper with your Ford Fusion, I recommend checking your owner's manual for the towing capacity of your vehicle. It is important to not exceed the manufacturer's maximum towing capacity for your vehicle.

Since your micro camper has a 6-way trailer connector, it is likely that the trailer has electric brakes. To power your trailer's brakes, you will need a wiring harness, a brake controller, and a brake controller installation kit.

To start wiring your 2015 Ford Fusion to tow your micro camper, you will want to start out with the wiring harness you referenced, the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring # 118574. This harness will provide you with a 4-way flat at the rear of your vehicle. The T-One harness will plug into the factory wiring harness on your vehicle behind the tail lights on each side of your Fusion. The ModuLite converter box has a power wire that will need ran to the positive battery post of the vehicle's battery. I have attached an installation video of this wiring harness on a 2015 Fusion for you.

To have a 6-way connector at the rear of your vehicle, you will want to use the # ETBC6 Brake Controller 6 and 4 Way Installation Kit. This kit includes a 4-way and 6-pole connector, the wire needed to run to the vehicle's battery and brake controller, and the hardware necessary to install the kit and make wire connections. The connector will plug into the # 118574 4-way, the blue wire will be ran to the brake controller inside the vehicle, the white wire will need to be grounded, the black/red wire will go a 40 amp circuit breaker and then to the vehicle's positive battery post. I have also attached a help article on wiring the # ETBC6 kit.

For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. The Prodigy P3 is a proportional brake controller that offers an easy-to-read LCD display and offers user-friendly diagnostics. I have also attached a review video of the P3.

To install the brake controller, you will want to splice the red wire into the stoplight switch wire behind the brake pedal that only has power when the pedal is pressed. You can use a circuit tester, like # PTW2993, to find the correct wire. The blue wire will connect to the blue wire from the trailer connector, the black wire with run to a 30-amp circuit breaker and then to the vehicle's positive battery post, and the white wire will be grounded at the battery's negative post. I have attached a help article on installing brake controllers for you.
