Recommended Brake Controller for 2014 Acura MDX
Question:
I have an Acura 2014 MDX with a after market hitch and a Curt 4 wire connector. I purchased an small RV with a single axel about 1900 lbs. The RV is a Canadian company called Safari and the model is a Safari Alto. I need to add a brake controller and have a 7 pin connector. Safari sells a Tekoshi Prodigy RF that mounts on the trailer and connects via the 7 pin. Apparently, it used a wireless car connector so it can be transferred to any vehicle. I am not sure I want wireless. I would prefer to put my own in and have a brake controller installed in the car. How can I wire this properly? Do you suggest a brake controller?

For your 2014 Acura MDX, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195. This brake controller features an easy to read LCD screen, performs continuous diagnostic checks, and will automatically level when mounted within a 360 degree vertical range. This is not a wireless brake controller, and it will need to be spliced into your vehicle's existing wiring. The universal pigtail that comes with the brake controller will need to be connected to your vehicle's stoplight switch behind the brake pedal with the red wire, the vehicle battery with the black wire, grounded at the white wire, and to the brake wire at the 7-way connector with the blue wire. I have attached a diagram showing this wiring setup, as well as a help article on installing a brake controller.
In order to install a brake controller in your MDX, you will also need a Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7. This kit will provide you will the necessary wiring, circuit brakes, hardware, and a 7-way and 4-way trailer connector at the rear of your vehicle. I have attached a help article on installing the # ETBC7 kit for you.
