Fit of Tow Ready 7-Way Trailer Connector # 118242 on 2000 Ford Expedition
Question:
Will this work with my 2000 Expedition? Truck has a factory 4 pin connector which is plugged in to a socket with 7 wires. Truck has brake controller socket under dash. It appears to me there should be a plug in solution for upgrading to a 7 pin connector. Thanks for your help on this.

Tow Ready tells me that because the Expedition is based on the Ford F-150 chassis, that the # 118242 is very likely to fit your truck. They haven't tested the fit, however, which is why they can't guarantee the fit.
For a guaranteed fit, I'd recommend using the # 37185, but you'd need to do some splicing. Follow the 4 pole to the socket it plugs into. On the other side of the connection, peel back the wire loom and find a blue and a red (or orange) wire. The blue wire on the # 37185 taps into the blue wire on the truck. The black wire on the # 37185 taps into the red or orange wire. The white wire from the adapter grounds to the trailer frame and the purple wire would tap into the reverse light circuit, if the trailer has reverse lights or uses a hydraulic braking coupler.
If you haven't already settled on a brake controller, you can't go wrong with a proportional controller like the Prodigy P2, part # 90885.
If it were me, I'd probably gamble on the # 118242 fitting, but please understand that I cannot guarantee that it'll work.
