Towing Capacity of 2013 Ford F150 5.0L 8-Cylinder for 5th Wheel Towing
Question:
I am trying to figure out if my 2013 Ford F150, 5.0L 8cylinder, 3.55 Axle ratio, both 4x2 and 4x4 can haul a 5th Wheel camper. I am getting conflicting information. Is there a 5th wheel hitch available for my model truck? According to Ford the maximum is towing is 8000 pounds. I am not understanding everything I need to know about this. Thanks in advance for your help!

The surest way to determine your F-150's towing capacity is to check the door jamb sticker on the driver's side. You will want to find the GCWR (gross combined weight rating). GVW is curb weight plus the weight of passengers and cargo. You will subtract the GVW from the GCWR and the difference will be your towing capacity. You can also check with your local Ford dealer who can look up your truck's VIN to confirm its specific equipment and resulting towing capacity. In all cases the auto maker gets the final word on a vehicle's towing capacity.
We do offer 5th wheel hitches for all three available bed lengths. You can click on the link provided to choose your truck's bed length, either 5-1/2-foot, 6-1/2-foot or 8-foot. Once you choose your bed you'll see suitable hitches and installation kits for your truck.
On the next page you can select the type of installation kit you prefer. I suggest a custom install kit since this will reduce your drilling requirements and your overall installation time. If you have a 6-1/2-foot bed, for example, you can use Reese custom install kit # RP50081-58 which includes rails, under-bed brackets and hardware. An installation video is linked for you. This industry-standard rail kit will accept 5th wheel hitches from Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Reese, Valley and Husky.
For a hitch you might want to consider choosing one with a double-pivot and double jaws, such as the Pro Series # PS30121. These features allow easier hitches on uneven ground and reduced chucking thanks to the superior king pin contact.
