Troubleshooting Brake Controller that is Wired Correctly that Won't Activate Trailer Brakes
Question:
Hello, I have a 2001 Yukon XL Denali and have installed a Voyager brake controller. Unfortunately, the LED has not illuminated or allowed for adjustment. I have checked all connections with a multimeter tool and have verified that it is getting power and outputting a signal to my electrical trailer attachment it gets signal when breaks are applied to the vehicle and when the manual brake control is pulled on the Voyager unit. I have attached my trailer to vehicle and done a test drive to see if the unit was working and the LED was bad/defective however neither work. I am at wits end right now and have a put way to much time/money into solving this problem. What am I missing here? Any suggestions on what isnt working? My mechanic is also scratching his head. Thanks.

Sounds like the problem is on the trailer side of the equation based on what you described and how the controller seems to be wired up and working properly.
First thing I would check is corrosion on the trailer connectors. A dirty trailer connector can cause the problem you are experiencing as it would prevent the brake signal from reaching the trailer's brakes. Next you should check the grounds of your brake assemblies. Make sure they are attached to a clean metal surface. Or, preferably ran back to the main ground wire of the trailer.
Lastly, it could be the brake magnets themselves. I attached a help article that covers how to troubleshoot bad magnets.
