Does Tailgate have to be Removed on 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 Short Bed to Use Lippert 1716 Pin Box

Question:

Why do I have to take the tail gate off my 2500 crew cab dodge 2007 short box to prevent the Lippert 1716 pin box from hitting it in a turn? In a tight turn the pin box will actually hit the top of the truck box. Im using a Reese R20 hitch. Is this the proper pin box for my montana expedition 295rdk?

You don't have to take the tailgate off of your 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 short bed for 5th wheel towing. That is usually only an issue on beds shorter than 6 feet when people try to use a slider hitch.

To determine if the Lippert 1716 pin box # LC1324791 is the correct fit for your trailer I would need to know the manufacture and model number of the original pin box which should be printed on a sticker or plate on the pin box.

If that information is not available then there are some measurements you can take to determine which pin box is correct for your trailer. Use the help article I have linked that covers the measurements you will need to take.
