Recommended Wiring Scheme for 3-Light Taillight Assembly on Re-Wired 1977 Airstream Trade Wind
Question:
I have a 1977 Airstream Trade Wind which I have completely rewired. The tail lights have 3 lights each. The outboard light can has a dual filament bulb and is the tail light and the turn signal. Middle can is the backup light. The inboard can is the brake light. The turn signal and the brake light are fed using the same lead wire from the harness. When I activate the turn signal the outboard light flashes as it should but so does the brake light which it should not. This is the same for both the left and right hand tail lights. Do I need to add a diode or some such device to the wiring ?

Thank you for the photo of your Airstream's tail light assemblies.
Since your Airstream trailer's wiring has combined stop and turn signals carried on the same wire you will need a vehicle-to-vehicle converter # 118158 to separate them out for routing to individual light assemblies. This Tow Ready harness installs in between the existing wiring and the lights. Right turn and stop signals will enter the converter on its left (input) side on the green wire; left turn and stop signals will enter on the yellow wire. On the right (output) side you'll have a red wire to carry ONLY the brake light signal and green and yellow wires for the turn signals.
Diodes will not be needed in this application.
