Recommended Taillight Converter for 1993 Ford Mustang

Question:

Greetings. I have a 1993 Ford Mustang 5.0 that I has an etrailer wiring harness. Everything works except the brake lights. Because the Mustang has separate amber turn signals. I simply cant see how the harnesss 4 wires ground, tail, left and right can transmit 5 pieces of information ground, tail, left, right and brake. Can you recommend a converter for my car? Thanks. PS Ive had this system in place for about a year. I always thought it worked fine, but now I cant conclude anything other than that the brake lights never worked!

It seems like you've diagnosed your problem. You'll need a taillight converter installed on your vehicle because of its separate taillight system. As you surmised, the converter takes the three signals from the right turn, left turn and brake and combines them into two signals, one for right turn and brake and one for left turn and brake.

A converter like the # 119178 is exactly what you'd need. You can simply cut the plug off your existing 4 pole, and attach its yellow, green, brown and white wires to the like colored input wires on the converter. The red wire would connect to the brake lamp circuit.
