Front Axle Trailer Brakes Lock Up with Brake Controller Set to Minimum Power Output

Question:

I have a tandem axle trailer with electric brakes. I set the controller at absolute minimum effectiveness and when I apply the truck brakes, no matter how lightly, the front axle brakes lock up. When the brake pedal is released the wheels roll as they should. The rear brakes operate as designed to. Confused. Can you suggest a solution please?

Helpful Expert Reply:

There could be a short in the wiring to the front axle brakes. Inspect the wiring and look for any pinched, frayed, or otherwise damaged wires and repair as needed. Also make sure that the ground wires are attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces.

Make sure the brakes are wired up like the diagram I have included.

There could also be a problem with the brake magnets themselves. I have included a link that explains how to test brake magnets for you.
