Adding Disc Brakes to Trailer with Electric Drum Brakes

Question:

I have a 40 ft cardinal 5th wheel which scales out at almost 16,000 pounds. I would like to have a little more stopping power!! The axles are Dexter 6000 pound Easy Lube with 12inch drums and 6 on 51/2 one half inch lugs and aluminum wheels, running GoodYear Marathon ST235-80-16 load range E tires. My brake controller is a Draw Tite Activator II. What will I need to convert. Thanks for your expert advice.

Yes, you can replace the electric drum brakes of your trailer with disc brakes. I attached a help article for you to check out that cover everything needed to add disc brakes to a trailer.

The disc brakes for a 6K axle aren't kitted, but we could certainly piece together a kit for you.

You'd need:

2) Kodiak Disc Brake Kits, part # K2HR526D
1) Titan Brake Line Kit, part # T4830000
1) Break Away Kit, part # 50-85-313
1) Hydrastar Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator, part # HBA16
