Recommended Cargo Carrier For 2011 Toyota Avalon
Question:
Will the Draw Tite 6502 folding carrier work on a 2011 Toyota Avalon? Im looking at the Curt C11427 Class I hitch. Id probably need a 1 1/4 inch to 2inch adapter. Will that adapter affect tongue weight?

The Curt Trailer Hitch, part # C11427 is confirmed to be a fit for your Avalon. This is a Class l hitch and it has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. The tongue weight capacity is 200 lbs. For a cargo carrier or bike rack, you would have to use a stabilizer strap like # 18050.
The cargo carrier, part # 6502 is designed to work with a 2-inch receiver. Since using any adapters like part # HTAD in a trailer hitch will reduce the capacity of the hitch by 50 percent, this means the hitch tongue weight capacity would be 100 lbs. I recommend going with a cargo carrier that is designed for 1-1/4 inch receivers.
I recommend a cargo carrier like part # C18110. This carrier is 20x48 and has the same 300-lb capacity as part # 6502 you referenced, but it is designed to work with 1-1/4 inch receivers, and it does not fold up, and will be limited to the 200 lb weight capacity of the hitch.
