The wiring systems of the 2012 Pilot and Acura MDX are different enough that the # 118265 isn't a fit for the MDX. The procedure for installing a 7-way on your MDX wouldn't be as simple but it could certainly be done. The Pilot and MDX are fairly closely related, but not so close that the two would interchange tow package elements.

You'd begin by installing a 4-pole trailer connector using part # 118424. How you'd proceed from there would depend on your trailer. If your trailer doesn't have brakes, you could simply use a 4-pole to 7-way adapter like part # 37185. You'd plug the adapter into the 4-pole, ground the white wire to the vehicle, and you'd be good to go.

If the trailer has brakes, you'd need to install a brake controller. The Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885 is very highly rated and easy to use. You'd also need our Brake Controller Install Kit, part # ETBC7. The kit includes the adapter mentioned above, plus all the wire, hardware and circuit breakers you'll need to complete the installation. I've linked you to the installation instructions for the kit, as well as to some FAQ articles that I hope you'll find helpful.
