Installing Brake Controller On Top of Dashboard of 1999 Dodge Ram 1500
Question:
I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 and want to mount a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 to the top of my dash board so I can see it without taking my eyes of the road. Can this be done or do you have a better idea? Thanks, Randy

As long as the controller is pointed in the direction of travel, and is level in a side-to-side orientation, you can certainly mount your # 90195 Tekonsha P3 to the top of the dashboard. The install/operation manual has full details about how the controller should be oriented when installed (see provided link.)
If your Ram has a factory installed 4 pole or 7 way trailer connector, it'll use the # 3020-P brake controller wiring adapter. One end of the adapter will plug into the controller, the other into the connector under the dash. The connector will be blue in color and is located atop or next to the white box on the firewall behind the emergency brake pedal.
Since you're installing the controller above the dash, you'll need to lengthen the wires of the wiring adapter. Cut off the black connector, and splice on a pigtail, part # 7894 which would wire together color for color. This will give you plenty of wire length.
If your truck didn't have the factory installed trailer connector, you'll need to hardwire the controller by first installing a 4-pole connector # 118329 and our brake controller install kit, part # ETBC7. I'll link you to the installation instructions for the kit, as well as to some installation videos and FAQ articles you might find helpful.
