How to Select Safety Chains for Use with Agricultural Trailers
Question:
How do we determine the size of safety chain needed for Anhydrous Ammonia Nurse Trailers pulled behind pickups or tractors? We need safety chains and hooks. We have single tank trailers and double tank trailers. Each trailer should have double chains that can be crossed and hooks to attached to pickup while traveling down road.

Expert Reply:
Safety chains should be selected by first confirming the weights of the two trailers when they are fully loaded. Next you will determine the length you need for the two ends to reach the trailer and truck without dragging on the ground.
For example, Andersen Ultimate Safety Chains # RM3230 is a pair of 35-inch chains with 3-1/2-inch levis hooks, D-rings and hardware. These are rated for 24,000-lbs.
