Parts Needed to Install Hopkins Agility Brake Controller in 2005 Volvo XC90 With Tow Package

Question:

Hi - I have a 2005 XC90 V8 with the factory installed tow package. I have a Hopkins Agility brake controller for it but all the brake controllers listed for sale are for vehicles without the factory installed towing equipment. Do you have any instructions or installation kits for installed this controller and somehow tying it into the factory tow kit?

To install a brake controller on you 2005 Volvo XC90 with the factory tow package you will need the brake controller wiring kit, part # 5506.

To install the brake controller, you will need to connect 4 wires, White, Black, Blue and Red. The white wire is for ground and it should be grounded to a clean, bare metal surface or to the negative battery terminal. The black wire is for 12 volt power to the brake controller and should be connected through a breaker. The blue wire is the electric brake output wire and it will be ran to the 7-way trailer connector at the back of the vehicle and connected to the 5 o'clock pin.

The last wire is the red wire. This wire connects to the cold side of the stoplight switch that is located above the brake pedal. You may see several wires coming from the stoplight switch. You want to connect the red wire to the wire that only has power when the brake pedal is pressed. To determine which wire only has power with the brake pedal, you will want to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to probe the wire as you press the brake pedal.
