If your 2008 Mercedes 450 M GL model has a 7-Way connector, and your trailer uses a 4-Way flat, then the Pollak 7 Pole to 4 Pole Connector Adapter, # PK12716, will work. The unit plugs into the 7-Way socket on your vehicle and the 4-pole on the trailer plugs into the back of the adapter. We actually have many of this set up. I have included a link to them below.
If you are not receiving any power or signals from your vehicle side connector, that could be the reason nothing has worked. You will need to check the plug for functions using a circuit tester like # PTW2993. Test for the 4 functions that the 4-Way flat connector can receive. Top left is tail and running lights. Right center is right turn and brake. Left center is left turn and brake. Bottom left is the ground. The circuit tester should show a signal in unison with the blinkers when engaged. The running lights should show a constant signal when the vehicle lights are on.
If you are not getting these results, your 7-Way may not be correctly wired. Take a look at the wiring FAQ linked below. About half way down you will see diagrams for connectors. Look for the one that says, 7 Way Vehicle Connector. The diagram on the left shows what the functions are if look at the face of the plug. The other one is the back of the plug. The wire color on the Tiguan could vary but the functions should be the same as you see in the diagram. If they are not, take out the wires and put them in the correct spot. Then the trailer lights should work. If they still do not work, then make sure your trailer wiring is correct according to the diagrams throughout the FAQ.
