Replacing Dexter Hubs To Transition to a GMC Truck Wheel Bolt Pattern

Question:

The inner bearing number is L68149, inner race is L68111. The outer bearing number is L44649, outer race is 444610. I could not find a number on the seal. I have measured the bolt pattern on the wheels to be used and they are a 5 on 4-3/4. Just got done painting and customizing this trailer for the owner, he had measured the wheels and bought them used, we done a full conversion so that it matches his new truck, ready to get this thing out of the shop. The spindles on this trailer are the redline ez lubes, I can get the mesurement on them if needed. Thank you for your service

To determine the correct hub to replace the existing hub on your horse trailer I will need the inner and outer bearing numbers and the seal part numbers to select the proper parts for your spindle. The 8-256 number that you see on your hub is a casting number and even if I could match it to a Dexter hub assembly it would most likely not match up with the correct bearings. Remove a hub and you should find the part numbers on the back side of the bearings and the seal.

You will need to measure the bolt pattern on the GMC wheels that you plan to use. If the on center measurement between two adjacent bolt holes is 2-3/4 inches then the 5 on 4-3/4 inch bolt pattern will be correct. You can double check the wheel pattern by measuring from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from it on the circle. For 5 on 4-3/4 you should get 4-3/4 inches.

You will need to make sure that the hub you use has the correct size wheel studs for the GMC truck wheels you are planning on using. We carry hubs with 1/2 inch, 9/16 inch and 5/8 inch wheel studs.

The bearing and race sizes you gave me are correct for the Trailer Hub Assembly - 3500 lbs Axle - 5 on 4-3/4, item # 845475UC1. The seal that is required for this hub is the 10-19, part # RG06-050, which is pretty much the standard for 3,500 pound axles. Since you said that the spindles you used are the EZ-Lube spindles you will need a grease cap that has the center rubber grease cap plug. You can order the hub assembly with the correct grease cap and plug as part # 845475UC1-EZ, or you can order the hub assembly you mentioned and order the caps with plugs separately. You would need the Grease Cap, 1.986 inch OD EZ Lube Drive in with Plug, item # RG04-040, Qty 2.
