You DO have some choices when it comes to a hitch for your 2012 Toyota RAV4. This is a good thing too.
Your RAV4 can be fitted with either a medium-duty 1-1/4-inch Class II type hitch or a higher-capacity 2-inch Class III type, which is what I recommend since it offers not only higher capacity but greater flexibility with hitch-mount accessories. Installation is going to be essentially the same either way so I suggest you go for a 2-inch hitch to give you more safety margin. I recommend Curt hitch # C13149 because of its no-drilling bolt-on installation, which is illustrated in the linked video and written install guide.
The ball mount I recommend is part # C45030 which can be used with the hitch ball size that matches your trailer coupler, either # 63845 for a 2-inch or # 63847 for a 2-5/16-inch size. You'll also need a hitch pin and clip to hold the ball mount in place in the receiver, part # C21500.
For a wiring harness I recommend the Curt # C56165. This wiring kit is mostly a plug-in installation and requires only one wire to be spliced. A video, article and written instructions are linked for you.
