Trailer Brake Lights Not Working when Connected to a 2003 Chevy Suburban

Question:

Hello, On my 03 suburban my trailer brake lights wont work but all the other lights on trailer and vehicle work. I hooked my 96 f150 up to trailer and the brake lights and everything else works. This tells me the issue is in the suburban but I cant Seem to figure out why. Any ideas? Thanks

This is a strange issue because at the trailer connector the brake lights and turn signals are on the same circuit. What I recommend is to test the vehicle side trailer connector with a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 while someone sits in the Suburban and presses the brake pedal.

If there is no power on the brake light/turn signal pins, then the issue is likely a blown fuse on the vehicle. Use the owner's manual to find the location of the stop light fuse and any fuse related to the tow package wiring so you can check them.

Also make sure the vehicle side connector is clean and free of corrosion inside and out.
