Can Steering Be Locked When Flat-Towing A Dune Buggy
Question:
I am towing a very light dune buggy Myers Manx style and am unsure if I need to minimize the steering a little because it is so light? I can not lock the steering and know your not suppose to lock it any ways.

The first thing I recommend is to contact the dealership and make sure that the dune buggy can be flat-towed. With a custom frame and body I am not certain there are base plates or adapters available for your dune buggy.
The universal base plate bracket kit we offer is part # BX88230, and it is designed to attach to a vehicle bumper. As the instructions state, most bumpers need to be modified to be able to use this system.
If you find you can use the # BX88230 kit, I recommend a tow bar like the Blue Ox Adventurer Tow Bar, part # BX7322. I have attached a product review video you can check out.
Concerning the steering, when flat-towing you will never want to lock the steering wheel. It would not allow the towed vehicle to execute turns and could be extremely dangerous.
When you are flat-towing any vehicle there are 5 things that you need. You need base plates, a tow bar, safety cables, lighting for the towed vehicle, and most states now require a supplemental brake system. I have attached a helpful article about flat-towing you may want to take a look at.
