5th Wheel Trailer Chucking Using Husky Slider in 2014 Ram 3500 with OEM Prep Package

Question:

So I bought the ram own hitch sub frame. Think Im worried about is adjusting. So with locked in and the pins in I dont get any movement but with a pry bar I get some movement. Why Im asking is I am getting a metal sound when accelerating and braking. Never had this noise when it was in my 94 Chevy with old school bed assembly. Am I paranoid or is there something I need to adjust. Thank you for your time.

The sound you are hearing is likely chucking which is that forward/backward movement of the king pin in the hitch jaws when you start or stop. This can occur for several reasons. Excessive king pin wear is one possibility though not all that likely. Some jaw systems are more likely to have this happen such as slide bar jaws.

It could also be some slight movement in the roller assembly. You will want to make sure everything is tight and follow the maintenance instructions for the hitch.

If you suspect movement of the rails then you would remove the hitch and slider base and make sure that the connection at the 4 pucks in the bed of your 2014 Ram 3500 are tight. With the puck system there is some fine tuning that can be done if the bolts that hold the rails to the pucks are not engaging properly.
