Recommended Roof Rack for a 2010 Honda Fit to Carry a Canoe on Short Road Trips

Question:

Hi. I have a 2010 Honda Sport Fit, and Id like to get a roof rack that would let me carry a canoe on short hops 20-100 miles. I bought an inexpensive but sounded good rack for a move from Miami to Tallahassee 450 miles, but it was a nightmare. It kept coming loose - had to stop every hour to retighten. The tightening bolt is soft and the allen fitting reamed out making tightening difficult. The rubber under the feet is flimsy and tore off. I dont want any of those kinds of problems again, even for this light duty! I dont care much about wind noise, and Id like to stay inexpensive without sacrificing basic quality. I am considering the Rhino 2500 with aero bars. Is this a solid i.e., good rack? Any other suggestions?

The Rhino-Rack 2500 with aero crossbars you referenced is a fine roof rack. This particular rack is compatible with many accessories both via clamp-on style and channel-mount style. It is also extremely aerodynamic. The maximum weight capacity is 165 pounds. The parts you need for the rack on your 2010 Honda Fit are # RRVA126B-2, # RRRLKVA, and # DK154. I went ahead and attached a video of this roof rack installed on 2012 Honda Fit to provide you with perspective.

It's always a good idea to view your Owners Manual to confirm the maximum roof capacity. Hence, always going with the lowest rated component.

If you don't have a canoe carrier, I recommend Yakima KeelOver canoe carrier # Y04069 because you can carry your canoe on its side plus it fits perfectly around the Rhino-Rack Aero Crossbars.
