Troubleshooting Putco 3157 LED Lights on a 2012 Dodge Challenger  

Question:

I have a 2012 challenger with sequential turn signals 8 bulbs in rear. I installed Putco 3157 LED's. Had the hyper flash and sequential s did not function properly. Installed 2 Putco ceramic resistors on each of the two outside bulbs, left and right. Seemed to have fixed the hyper flash. With tail lights on, signals work great, with tail lights off, signals still work but seem to be slightly out of sync only slightly. I then installed 4 more resistors on the center 4 bulbs which are also part of the sequential signals to see if this helped. Did not seem to make any difference. If I leave the signals on for maybe 2 minutes, they get hot enough that you cant hold on to them. I am worried about the heat as there is nowhere to get them away from the other wire etc. can they be wrapped in any type of insulating tape? Should I remove the center 4 resistors? Are the resistors in play when you step on the brakes or is it only the turn signals?

Since you are experiencing hyper flashing with your LED lights, using a load resistor like # DI34ZR per affected light is correct. However, I would remove the 4 load resistors you added to the rear center lighting.

I recommend using the LED load resistor # DI34ZR because it's 50 watts. Replace one first and see if it helps. If it helps the sync problem, then use this load resistor for each light.

A load resistor can become hot because it is designed to hold back power. Wrapping them with insulation would prevent them from dissipating heat properly. The best installation is to mount the resistor away from other wires.
