Wiring Needed for 2013 Ford Explorer Towing Boat Trailer with 5 Pin Connector

Question:

I have a 2013 Ford Explorer Limited 2wd without a tow pkg. Im going to outfit it with a tow hitch, but am wondering about the plug n play wiring kit. I really need the wiring to be set up for a 5 pin. Ive seen the Tow Ready with a module, but I would have to splice in the wiring which Im trying to avoid. I was thinking Id run a flat 4 pin and the 7 pin to 5 pin plug, so I would have both options. My boat trailer is set up as a 5 pin flat with surge brake lockout. Your recommendations with available part numbers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

You will want to start by adding the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness, # C56093, which installs quickly and easily to provide a 4-pole flat trailer connector for your 2013 Ford Explorer. The T-connector will plug directly into your existing wiring with no splicing required. Then you'll just need to run the black wire to your battery to power the converter and installation is complete. Take a look at the video that I have attached for you.

To convert that 4-way to the 5-way needed to tow your boat trailer, the easiest route would be to use the Tow Ready 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter, # 20036. You'll just need to plug in the connector and splice the blue wire into the reverse light wire on your Explorer and you will be ready to go.
