Using Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect # RM-765 When Flat Towing 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Question:

Hello help me sort out my thinking. Im having trouble wrapping my mind around why I need to disconnect the battery while flat towing if the battery is constantly being charged from the RV system using the RM-765 or simply a wire and diode from the RV Thanks

First and foremost, if Jeep requires the battery to be disconnected while flat towing, you must follow these instructions in order to prevent damage to your vehicle.

The main reason for disconnecting the negative battery cable when flat towing is to prevent the battery from draining. When you flat tow your Wrangler, the ignition must be left in the ACC position. This would leave certain electronic components on that could drain the battery.

The benefits of using the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect for Towed Vehicles, # RM-766, is that it serves as a disconnect and eliminates the hassle of having to physically disconnect your battery cable each time you want to tow. It will also provide a maintenance charge to your battery.

If the battery were left connected, there is a very good chance that the drain on the battery would far exceed the charge provided by part # RM-766 and you would be left with a dead battery.

I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to view.
