Will etrailer.com Locking Hitch Pin Work For 2 Inch To 1-1/4 Inch Hitch Adapter

Question:

Once again looking at the etrailer.com website for additional accessory equipment. I already have a 5/8inch diameter locking hitch pin for the proximal end of the hitch reducer 2-1.25 to engage the 2inch receiver. With the 2 1/8inch usable inner distance to deter tampering, is this the ideal hitch pin lock for use with my 1 1/4inch caliber bike rack engaged into the distal end of the 2-1.25inch hitch reducer? thanks.

If you are using a 2 inch to 1-1/4 inch adapter like part # 80300 on your hitch you are correct that the 5/8 inch pin would be the correct pin for the 2 inch shank.

For the 1-1/4 inch end of the adapter, the etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock, part # e98879 will work well. You can take a quick measurement of the 1-1/4 inch end of the adapter. In its locked position the span of the pin is 2-1/8 inches. If your measurement is less than 2-1/8 inches then this lock should work well for you. I have attached a product review video for this locking hitch pin you can check out.

You will want to make sure your bike rack does not require a specific hitch pin as so many bike racks do.

Using a hitch adapter will reduce the towing and tongue weight capacity of your hitch by 50 percent.
