5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for a 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 and 17,000 Pound Trailer

Question:

delivery weight 13081, caring capacity 3789, hitch weight 2870. Is a 16 k 5th wheel hitch heavy enough for this unit. Plan on pulling it with 2015 2500hd Silverado 4/4 crew cab duramax, would this be good set up for tow vetches. Montana 3790 5th wheel. Tires will be E rated. Will tire need to be a G rated, thanks

Helpful Expert Reply:

Since the 5th wheel trailer has a potential gross weight of over 16,000 pounds I recommend going up to a higher capacity hitch. For an economical 20K hitch you can use # RP30928 for a long bed or # C16541 slider for a short bed truck.

For the tires you should use what is recommended by the trailer manufacturer. Trailer tires, (ST in front of the size) should be inflated to the maximum psi indicated on the tire. This is because trailer tires have a thicker sidewall compared to passenger vehicle tires. If under inflated the tires will build up excessive heat because of the thicker sidewall.

Provided the tires have the appropriate capacity for the gross trailer weight there is no reason to change to a different load range.
