Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller # 90885 Installation on 2012 BMW X5 With OEM Wiring Harness
Question:
I have a 2012 BMW X5 with an OEM wiring harness. How does one connect the P2 so everything works properly? I have seen others have done it, but when I search controllers for that vehicle on your site, the only one that pops up is the RF model. Is there a harness available? Wiring diagram? Thanks!

Your 2012 BMW X5 does not have a port under the dash to allow use of quick-connect brake controller wiring adapters that are offered for many domestic trucks and SUVs.
Some of the older model years of the X5 could be hardwired with a brake controller because those vehicles had accessible wiring (behind the right kick panel) that carried the required brake light signal. (That brake light wire provided the required triggering signal to activate the brake controller output.) According to my technical contact at Tekonsha there is not a confirmed hardwire option for a Prodigy P2 brake controller on your 2012 X5 because of the difficulty of finding a suitable signal wire inside the passenger compartment.
If your X5 has a working OEM 7-way trailer socket such as that shown in the linked photo a really good option is the Curt Echo Brake Controller # C51180. This unique controller simply gets plugged into the vehicle's 7-Way itself and is paired to your smart phone via Bluetooth. It doesn't require any wiring to the vehicle nor is there a need for a separate component inside the BMW, since your phone is what you will use to adjust any settings or activate the manual override.
I have linked an installation video and the written instructions for reference.
