Voyager Trailer Brake Controller Does Not Show Green Light with Trailer Connected
Question:
Hi, my Voyager 9030 was working fine and then it stopped working. Now I get no green light when I hook up my trailer. Ive double checked my wiring black to hot, white to groundI took it to the battery, red to stoplight switch and blue to the brake wire. I checked all the wires for continuity all the way back to the 7-pin, and into the trailer wiring. All good. Could it be my Voyager 9030 it self? Could it be in the magnets in my brakes? Stumped!!!! Thanks in advance.

You have done some thorough testing which makes my job easier! I do not think it is the trailer brake magnets but rather the controller. To make sure what you can do is sever the blue wire about 6 inches from the back of the controller. Then use your tester to test the end of the blue wire coming out of the controller while applying the manual override. If it does not show power or if it shows power all the time (with or without the manual override on) then the controller will need to be replaced.
If you do have power like you are supposed to then reconnect the blue wire. The issue would be somewhere between the controller and the trailer connector. But you mentioned you had continuity so I do not think it is a break in the wiring.
I have some experience with this controller and if its level knob is off a little it can do all sorts of weird things. You will want to make sure that the controller is turned or tilted to the side and that leveler knob is pointing straight up and down.
If there is power on the brake output pin at the trailer connector when the manual override is on then that would indicate a problem on the trailer side. Make sure that the vehicle and trailer side connectors are clean and free of corrosion inside and out.
Inspect the power wires to the magnets and look for pinched, frayed, or damaged wires and fix as needed. Make sure the ground wires are attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces.
You can visually inspect the magnets and if you can see the copper windings coming through the magnets will need to be replaced. To further test the magnets you can follow the help article I have linked. I have also included some help articles on testing and troubleshooting brake controllers for you.
