Parts Need to Flat Tow a 1986 Jeep CJ-7 Behind a Chevy Tahoe

Question:

I am looking to set up my 1986 Jeep CJ7 with a tow bar that is capable of highway speeds. It will likely be pulled behind a Chevrolet Tahoe with plenty of towing capacity. Can you help me determine what the best setup for me would be? Ive heard the Blue Ox tow bars are the best.

The best option for base plates on your 1986 Jeep CJ7 is the Blue Ox bolt-on base plate bracket kit # BX88230. The capacity is 5,000 pounds. Since this is a custom installation the bumper may need to be reinforced. Please view the included instruction link.

I also recommend the Blue Ox tow bar # BX7380 as it has a 6,500 pound capacity. The swivel function feature makes it very easy to connect your vehicle, even on uneven terrain.

Safety cables are essential when using a tow bar system and they will be included with the Blue Ox tow bar # BX7380.

The tow light kit I recommend is the Optronics magnetic tow lights # TLL21RK. They are red LED's with a 4-way connector included.

Lastly, you will need a brake controller. I recommend the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR. It's a proportional system that provides synchronized, reliable braking for your 1986 Jeep CJ7. It will plug directly into your Jeep's 12V outlet. If you don't have a 12V outlet, then you will need # RM-9332. This kit will create a 12V power outlet.

I included a few FAQ's and installation videos for you too.
