Brake Controller for a 2015 Volkswagen Touareg
Question:
Hi, I have a brand new Touareg TDI with factory towing package. I THINK I want a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 or P2 Controller. Nothing is listed for the 2015, but my dealer tells me that there is no difference between the 2014 and 2015 as far as towing is concerned, so that either of these will work. Correct? Apparently, the Touareg comes with an under dash connector for a harness. My understanding is that no OEM or aftermarket harness exists, but that with VW shell connector and two spade wire sets cut in half to provide a four pigtail set, all I need to do is to make 4 in-line splices. Please confirm. Finally, do you have any suggestions as to WHERE in the vehicle this might be best placed? I was thinking about placing it below the driver side kick plate although I am concerned about knee airbags or perhaps in the ashtray area. The latter has a spring loaded cover. I assume that this unit does not need ventilation. Please advise. Thanks

Brake controllers are not vehicle specific so you can install one on your 2015 Volkswagen Touareg. Between the P2, # 90885, and the P3, # 90195, I prefer the P2 because it is the better entry level controller.
There are some special installation instructions for the Touareg. I have included a link to them for you.
As far as location, you will need to install the controller so that it is within easy reach of the driver. Placing it over a panel that has an airbag behind it is not a good idea. The center console ashtray area you mentioned could work. There are no specific ventilation requirements for brake controllers.
