Adding a 7-Way and Brake Controller to a 2005 Ford Expedition with 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector
Question:
HI, I am planning on doing some trailer towing and want to get my Expedition set up best. I see that I can install this without issue. I will also need to install the brake controller wiring and battery power, so I can haul the larger trailers. Expeditions have 2 towing pkg options in 2005, I have the smaller one which includes the 4way plug, tranny cooler, etc but it doesnt have the 7way. What else do I need to buy? Do I already have a brake controller and battery output plugs under the dash and simply need to route to the rear 7way? If these are not there already, then what is the part list and can you recommend one of your install videos? Please note, I am competent in wiring and mechanical so I am hoping this is less than an hour total time. Thanks for your help!

Since your 2005 Ford Expedition came with a factory installed 4-Way all you will need is the 7-Way, # 37185, a brake controller, and the correct controller wiring harness to plug into the vehicle. Your Expedition does have a place to plug in the brake controller.
To install the 7-Way you will need to follow the help article I have linked to the right. Look at the section called Connecting the 6 or 7-Way Plug. The wires for 12 volt power and brake output are run most of the way to the back of the vehicle. You just need to locate them and splice them into the 7-Way.
For a brake controller I recommend the P2, # 90885 and wiring harness # 3035-P. The P2 is our most popular brake controller because it is easy to set up and use and it is reliable. I have linked a video as well that should help.
