Troubleshooting Tekonsha Voyager that the Light Goes Off when Lever or Brakes are Applied
Question:
I have a 2004 Silverado 2500hd with tow package I get a green light when plugged in, when I use the manual lever or apply the brakes, the light goes out. I replaced the 7 pin on the truck, the trailer is a year old. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.

That means you have a short on the brake output circuit. This is the circuit that carries the voltage from the brake controller to the brake assemblies. Typically corrosion on the trailer connectors is to blame for this. Cleaning the connectors inside and out usually will solve this problem.
Aside from that you will need to check the wiring starting near the connectors checking for shorts and fixing them as necessary. Cut or exposed wires near the connectors are usually to blame for this.
I attached an FAQ on brake controllers for you to check out as well.
