Rear Suspension Support

SumoSprings helper springs are great for RVs or motor homes. Heavy rear loads can cause sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the rear axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the motor home's weight. And because there is less weight on your front axle, your front tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

SumoSprings diagram of installation above existing vehicle spring

Each spring in this kit is bolted to two mounting brackets. One bracket is attached to the frame of your vehicle, and the other bracket is attached to the axle, typically above your existing factory leaf spring. Because each helper spring is in full contact at the top and bottom of the suspension's travel, the expanding and contracting action of the SumoSprings enhances your ride under all conditions, not just when it's loaded. And the closed-cell urethane springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.

SumoSprings compressing under load

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy rear load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your front tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.

The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

SumoSprings expanding to allow play in the suspension

These springs extend in height by as much as 50 percent to allow more movement in your suspension when you're traveling unloaded, making your ride smoother and more comfortable.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

SumoSprings expand and compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

This kit comes with custom-fit brackets that are designed to easily bolt onto your vehicle.

Front and rear Sumo Springs installed. Have not had a chance to hit the highway as yet. Locally a very good ride. Thanks to Joanne K. for all of her help.

Our 28 foot Ford chassis Class A handles like flying a kite with no string. It needed help. I started with the Sumo springs because the description made it sound like I could do them myself. Yep. Job accomplished.
Then, I purchased a front sway bar, which did not come with my motorhome. Got ready for the job and discovered Sumo springs are incompatible with mounting a front sway bar. Had I known…
By the way, we are still flying our kite and having a ball. 15 states and 16,000 happy miles.
But it could be better.

2021 Ford F-53

Finally completed my SumoSprings with these rear ones for our 2022 Entegra Vision 29s (Ford F53 chassis V8). A while back, I installed the front SumoSprings and it changed our RV from a “white-knuckling, Nordictrack-exercising, stress-induced-heart-stopping” drive to a…comfortable and sure-footed one.
This time around I installed the rear ones and it complimented the drive even more!! We pull a ~5k lbs utility trailer w/off-road UTV’s and we don’t sway or fishtail as much in the rear anymore! We love SumoSprings!! We have them in ALL of our vehicles!! Highly recommend!
I deducted 1 star for eTrailer. I made the mistake of repurchasing the front SumoSprings again instead of the rears, without triple checking what I bought. I cancelled a minute too late to prevent it from being shipped. Unfortunately, it was shipped and they had to issue me a return label for when it arrives. Thus deducting logistics and restocking fee from my purchase refund.
Granted, it was 100% my fault for the wrong purchase but eTrailer could have given a loyal customer a one time pass.

2018 Thor Windsport Motorhome

Sumospring is an excellent product. Very happy with the performance of this product. Installation was not difficult only had to make small adjustments. Sumospring Tech help line was very helpful. Product does as advertised.

by:

Installing it by myself was not hard at all. Definitely heavy duty.
Assistance on torque specks via their tech dept was outstanding.

by:

Great products. I would recommend this to any one. makes the coast feel like a totally different coach.

by:
Ford

My THOR motor coach has the Ford F-53 chassis. I rides like a truck. That should not be surprising as "it is a truck." I purchased and installed these Sumo Springs and even though it will never be "air bag" suspension, the Sumo Spring made a wonderful difference in improving the ride. I would recommend this add on to everyone and as I meet similar motor coaches on the road, I show them the Sumo Springs and I do recommend them.

Installation of the rear SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs was accomplished without any problems. All necessary parts to install the springs were supplied in the kit. The SumoSprings have made a great difference in the ride and stability of our 2015 Thor ACE. The ACE ride and sway has improved to the point it is like driving a new RV. The side winds that push on the rear do not make the front want to move toward the center line or road side. I don't feel like I'm in a constant battle to stay in my lane which will vastly improve my driving pleasure. Passing 18 wheeler trucks didn't make our rig move away like before. I feel much safer with this more stable drive. The RV also doesn't seem to have the top heavy sway as we corner we actually have a much safer and smooth transition. Our test drive home from the shop was about 22 miles, with 5 miles on 4 lane and 18 miles on a narrow two lane back road. I feel this gave me the chance to evaluate the improved performance gained by installing the SumoSprings. I know our next trip will be a much safer and pleasant drive Thanks to the SumoSprings.

2015 Ford F-53

I purchased the SumoSprings Maxim rear axle helper springs for my 2016 F-53 Ford Chassis Georgetown 270S last year. They arrived quickly and were relatively easy to install. We drive in the mountains and regularly contend with cross-winds and some uneven road surfaces. we have put on a couple thousand miles since I installed these and the improvement is noticeable. These helper springs really smoothed out the ride, made the RV much more stable on the road with no harshness in ride comfort. These springs are worth getting if you are trying to avoid that side to side rocking and soft feel of the stock springs. I plan to install a set on the front soon to further add to the stability in windy conditions. These springs are a worthwhile investment and not that pricey compared to other options.

by:

I read a lot about the sway u get from a Rv and how people buy everything under the sun to fix it. I decided to purchase the sumo springs first before any sway bars shocks or any other product people had purchase. They cured all of the problems I was having with the pushing from a semi passing and the wind. I went from a death grip on the steering wheel to a more relaxing ride. I live in the Columbia gorge and we get some heavy winds. So glad I bought them I would recommend these to anyone who would like a more stable ride and and a relaxing drive.

Big Improvement! Installed Sumosprings on Rear Thor ACE 29.4 F53, after installing Sumosprings on front and steering stabilizer shock. The rear SumoSprings greatly eliminated sway from back of MH, and seemed to firm up the ride and a reduce bounce. The improvement was very noticeable but incremental compared to the modification to front of coach. Was a VERY good investment, but suggest start with front Sumosprings, With all 3 modifications I can drive down the road with two fingers (not recommended) on steering wheel, no fear from wind/trucks, and pleasurable ride! NOTE: Bolts were too long (5" needed 4" otherwise interfered with break line), etrailer probably would have quickly replaced but in hurry and purchased myself ($2).

by:
Fleetwood

I have now installed the front and rear sumo springs on my 2015 Fleetwood storm 32h. I am so happy with the sumo springs! I have so much better control of my RV now. I highly recommend the sumo springs. The rears are easier to install with two people and make sure you have drill bits for steel. I ordered Dewalt titanium drill bits and they drilled through the frame like butter.

by:

Very happy and satisfied with the the service and support provided by etrailer. There was a missing part in the original order and they steeped up and took care of it quickly and it made it on time to keep my appointment with the installer.

All of the recommended parts have worked as advertised and I will definitely be getting all future needs from etrailer!!

by:

Was ready to improve handling of my Class A. I was pleasantly surprised with the improved handling with front and rear sway bars, sumo springs and a steering stabilizer.

by:

Great product. Front easy to install backs I had to get help only because its easier to remove the wheels. They almost stopped the wobbling/swaying and shimmering of the steering wheel over bumps. A lot smoother ride.

by:
Nissan Leaf

These make a significant difference for standard leaf spring gas rigs. They certainly don’t achieve air suspension ride or handling but a worthwhile modification to a gas rig. Sharp turns no longer tilt the vessel like before.

by:
Ford Edge

Ok to install but be nice if directions or install video shows the install for both driver and passengers side. Bracket that wraps around the edge of the u-bracket holding leaf springs goes on outside/back on one side and inside/front on the other. Was a little confusing and nothing in directions or video about it. Also the placement of the sumo before or after the axle wasn’t clear. Directions had an arrow but be great if video explains it more.

by:
2017 Ford F-53

Item installed easily. Ideally I would have removed the tires but with some effort this item installed without the removal. Springs definitely tighten up the vehicle rear end. I have not placed load on yet so the real test is yet to come but handling has improved. ETrailer is a great company to do business with. Will use again and again!

by:

Shipping was faster than I expected. I have used SumoSprings on past RV’s and the ones I purchased for our new Class A are performing as expected.

Thor

I called to figure out if that Sumo Springs will work on my 2016 Thor ACE 27.1 and he said they would. I ordered them and it was like magic they appeared after a few days as promised. ( ok, maybe not magic). But you get the point. I will be calling in for more things in the future and will always ask for James, outstanding job and teacher. Walked my thru a lot of dumb questions i had and was helpful. I recommend these guys.

We are so excited our Sumos have arrived! We are having them installed by a local Custom’s installer shop next Wednesday, and we just can’t wait to experience the ride on our 2015 Forest River FR3 30DS! We have pretty much customized everything else inside with a lot of help from etrailer, now thankful they are there for us for the outside stuff as well!

2016 Ford F-53

Paired these with the front Sumos and they made a world of difference in our 30 foot class A. Hardly sways at all now. My DW will even drive it now.

Excellent customer service. Sumo springs where delivered even faster than I expected

Great product, installation was not bad on a 2011 Thor Hurricane 31j, improved stability and dampened bumps and expansion joints also in my opinion has also helped isolate the road noise.

  • Best Suspension and Steering Upgrades For 2020 Thor Hurricane 29M Motorhome
To improve the suspension and steering on your 2020 Thor Hurricane 29M you can add springs in the front and back along with a steering stabilizer and anti-sway bars in the front and back. Of course, while that will get you the ultimate riding experience, you may not want to do the whole thing at once, so to start I recommend adding springs to the rear and a sway bar to the front. For the rear, I highly recommend the SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs, part # SSR-184-40-1. These are...

  • Comparing Timbren and SumoSprings Suspension Enhancement for 2019 Thor ACE 30.2 Motorhome
The biggest difference between the two for your 2019 Thor ACE 30.2 motorhome, and the reason why I highly recommend the SumoSprings over the Timbren, is what each product is constructed from. The Timbrens are made from a strong, rigid rubber while the SumoSprings are made from microcellular urethane. This is important because it means the SumoSprings will compress more gently, while the Timbrens are known to give a much stiffer ride. The front axle and rear axle fits for your 2019 Thor...
