I purchased a fan control thermostat (D16728) and thread-in probe (D16737) for my aluminum radiator with threaded bung in the bottom tank. Previous single-piece thermostats burned out in short order since they could not carry the current required to run the single fan. With this new arrangement, the thermostat itself can be replaced without losing coolant, unlike the single-piece items.
The only difference in hooking up this thermostat is the need for an additional ground wire, which is no problem at all.
